Pressure - Seyðisfjörður

The exhibition Pressure will open on Friday 17. January at 20:00 in the gallery of Skaftfell Center for Visual Art. The exhibition is the result of a printmaking workshop held by the Iceland University of the Arts (LHÍ) in Seyðisfjörður, East Iceland. The workshop is a collaboration between LHÍ, Skaftfell Center for Visual Art, FOSS editions and the Technical Museum of East Iceland. The workshop started on 6. January 2020 and the group consists of 14 students from the academy as well as two exchange students. By participating in the workshop the students developed a deeper understanding of the printmaking process and key elements in the production of a printed work under the guidance of printmaking-specialists Sigurður Atli Sigurðsson, Linus Lohmann and Litten Nystrøm.

During the course a silkscreen printing workshop was constructed at the gallery at Skaftfell where as the participants worked individually on at least one editioned graphic work. The students have used a variety of printing methods to create their edition. The individual works—and the workshop itself—forms this exhibition.

In collaboration with: Iceland University of the Arts, Skaftfell Center for Visual Art, FOSS editions, Technical Museum of East Iceland

Towns & Villages

Each town in Austurland has its own characteristics. In some of the coastal villages t, the influence of North European neighbors obvious to everyone.

The French made a strong impact in Fáskrúðsfjörður where the road signs are made out in French as well as in Icelandic. Norwegian influence is easily detected in the Eskifjörður and Seydisfjörður architecture. No such roots are to be seen in Egilsstadir which is the latest addition to East Iceland agglomeration, founded in the late forties of the 20th century.
