Street Triathlon in Eskifjörður

Street - Triathlon, held first Saturday in June every year. Held during the Sjómannadagshelgi.

The competition is both for children and adults. You can either compete in a team or as an individual. Also possible for families because team for children can include one adult)
We swim in a 25 m long swimming pool and run and bike through the village Eskifjörður in East Iceland.

SUPER SPRINT (Children and teams)
* 400 m. swim
* 10 km. bike
* 2,5 km. run

Super Sprint is for children 7 years old and older. Maximum 1 adult in each team. An adult is 14 years old and older.
Price 3000 ISK (50% discount if a parent is also competing.

SPRINT (Individuals and teams )
* 750 m. swim
* 20 km. bike
* 5 km. run
Price 4000 ISK

OLYMPIC (Individuals and teams)
* 1500 m. swim
* 40 km. bike
* 10 km. run

The street triathlon gives all the admission fee to good cause for young people in East Iceland.

Towns & Villages

Each town in Austurland has its own characteristics. In some of the coastal villages t, the influence of North European neighbors obvious to everyone. 

The French made a strong impact in Fáskrúðsfjörður where the road signs are made out in French as well as in Icelandic. Norwegian influence is easily detected in the Eskifjörður and Seydisfjörður architecture. No such roots are to be seen in Egilsstadir which is the latest addition to East Iceland agglomeration, founded in the late forties of the 20th century.
