There are several different ways one can take to reach East Iceland. Wether it's by plane, car or even on foot we are sure it will be a journey to remember! 

By plane

The Icelandic Airlines Icelandair and Play Airlines operate flights to Iceland from Europe and North-America. Iceland´s international airport is situated in Keflavík about 40-50 minutes drive from the capital, Reykjavík. Here is a  list of airlines that fly to Iceland.

The domestic airport in Reykjavik is located in the heart of the city. Icelandair offers daily flights from Reykjavík to Egilsstaðir, the main hub in East Iceland.

Easy Jet offers direct flights to Akureyri airport in North Iceland from London Gatwick. The drive to Egilsstaðir, East Iceland is approximately 3.5 hours passing natural wonders of Mývatn and Stuðlagil. If you like exploring remote areas this is definitely an option when travelling to Iceland.

By car

Your own (or rented) car. The drive from Reykjavík to East Iceland can be made in one day. You can either take the Northern or Southern route on road nr. 1.

Route 56 drives: Egilsstaðir - Akureyri and Akureyri - Egilsstaðir all year. In the summer they drive daily and 3-5 times a week during the winter.

By boat

The Smyril line ferry Norröna offers weekly sailings to/from Denmark to Seyðisfjörður in East Iceland with a stop at the Faroe Islands.

Note that sailing dates vary between seasons.

The ferry between Neskaupstaður and Mjóifjörður sails twice a week over winter time (Oct 1 - May 31). Mondays and Thursdays from Mjóifjörður at 10:00 and back from Neskaupstaður at 12:30.
