There is a wide range of wildlife in East Iceland, mainly in the form of a rich bird life. Not many wild mammals can be found in Iceland, but Austurland offers the widest ragne because reindeer only live Austurland. In addition to the reindeer, seals, foxes and mink can be spotted in Austurland. Below, you can get to know some of the most popular species better.

Puffins

Reindeer
Reindeers or rangifer tarandus are naturally strong animals with thick fur to withstand the colder climate in their habitat.
Arctic Fox
It is believed that the arctic fox took residence in Iceland somewhere near the end of the last ice age. The fox lives on birds, eggs, and all sorts of greens found in Icelandic nature.
