Ryosuke Kiyasu at KIOSK108, Seyðisfjörður — September 22
Japanese percussionist and performance artist Ryosuke Kiyasu will perform at KIOSK108 in Seyðisfjörður on September 22. The concert will also mark the final event of KIOSK108’s summer season.
Tokyo-based Kiyasu began his career as a snare drummer in Canada in 2003. A driving force in the avant-garde music scene for more than two decades, he has performed extensively as a solo artist while also playing with the group SETE STAR SEPT. He has also served as the drummer for Keiji Haino’s legendary ensemble Fushitsusha.
In 2018, a video of Kiyasu’s live performance in Berlin went viral, reaching more than 23 million views and sparking conversation around the world. This led to features in major international media outlets, including BBC News and VICE. More recently, his distinctive performance style was highlighted by the British fashion and culture magazine i-D, further cementing his influence across both experimental music and contemporary culture.
Kiyasu’s work has received significant recognition within the international percussion community. He was invited as a main guest for two consecutive editions of Germany’s Überschlag Festival, one of the world’s largest biennial festivals dedicated to percussion. In 2025, local fans in Bristol, UK, organized an experimental music festival in his honor titled Kiyasu Fest.
In 2026, Kiyasu began a global promotional collaboration with Pearl Drums, appearing as a key figure in the drum manufacturer’s international campaigns. His practice also reaches beyond traditional musical contexts through collaborations with fashion label Our Legacy and performances within contemporary art settings.
Performing more than 200 shows annually around the world, Ryosuke Kiyasu continues to challenge and redefine ideas of percussion, performance, and the boundaries between music and contemporary art.
