The Fjord Way Itineraries
The Fjord Way is a journey through the wild and beautiful fjords of Austurland (East Iceland), a region where every turn in the road reveals a new landscape, every small village has its own character, and there is always another waterfall, hiking trail, viewpoint, local story, or hidden corner waiting to be discovered.
Following the Fjord Way takes you through eleven unique towns and fjord communities, from Djúpivogur in the south to Vopnafjörður in the north, with some of Iceland’s most spectacular and lesser-known coastal landscapes in between.
We recommend around one full day in each community and its surroundings, seeing something completely different every day. The landscapes change constantly: dramatic mountains give way to black beaches, peaceful valleys, colourful fishing villages, waterfalls, forests, cliffs and wide-open coastlines.
The itinerary can easily be extended to two weeks, giving you the opportunity to add hikes, boat trips, outdoor adventures, cultural experiences, and spontaneous detours along the way. Whether you have a few days or two weeks, the Fjord Way is about more than simply travelling from one place to another. Take your time, explore the unexpected, and experience the fjords at your own pace.
