TOWN FESTIVAL

Útsæðið

The Sprouting Potato

Útsæðið is a town festival held yearly in Eskifjörður. The locals celebrate the town's anniversary around the 18th of August by throwing it a birthday party of sorts. The unusual name, Útsæði, translates directly to "Sprouting Potato". Over the weekend, you can attend diverse events and exhibitions all around town and get to know the local culture and the rich history of this small village.

During the weekend, the town is divided into neighborhoods that compete against each other for the title "Best dressed neighborhood of Eskifjörður". The neighborhoods face each other in different challenges such as baking the best potato dish and birthday cake.

Other events going on throughout the weekend include markets, neighborhood grills, teenage disco, and plenty of musical acts.
