On the Saturday before Easter, April 4, at 11:00, the annual Easter walk begins from Valþjófsstaður to Skriðuklaustur.
Rev. Þorgeir Arason, parish priest of the Egilsstaðir parish district, will lead the walk following meditation and singing in Valþjófsstaður Church, accompanied by organist Jón Ólafur Sigurðsson. Oddný Eir and Ævar Kjartansson will lead readings along the way. Together, the walk becomes a journey from reflection and sorrow toward the rising sun, resurrection, and joy.
There will be hymn singing, readings from the Passion Hymns, colorful silk ribbons placed on tree branches, sourdough bread grilled over an open fire, hot cocoa, and an Easter egg hunt at the destination. The walk is an annual collaborative project between Skriðuklaustur and the Valþjófsstaður parish / Egilsstaðir parish district.
