Camp Egilsstaðir
Camp Egilsstaðir is a well-situated campground in the middle of a small town called Egilsstaðir. The supermarkets and restaurants are within walking distance. Places you might want to visit like the waterfall Hengifoss, the amazing Stuðlagil Canyon, and Vök Baths are easily found and within 1-hour drive from our Campsite.
For the last few years, Camp Egilsstaðir has been able to provide one of the best camping services which include 24/7 open facilities where guests can access bathrooms, showers, washing and drying machines, and more. The campground is also popular in the off-seasons as it is open all year round, 24/7.
To improve your Camp Egilsstaðir experience we have made our facilities more accessible and spacious. In 2022 our kitchen facilities have been expanded so you can choose now between cooking outdoors and indoors, in the common room. We have now more toilet facilities and the large common room is open 24/7!
From 2021 you can book and pay for your stay online which is very important to do in high season. In low season it is also possible to pay with a card in our self-service pose or with cash in our honesty box if the reception is closed.
Come and stay at our campground on your way around Iceland. It is also probably the happiest campsite in the country!
Prices for the campsite can be found here on Camp Egilsstaðir website and you can also reserve your spot by booking online.
Egilsstaðastofa Visitor Center is located at Egilsstaðir campsite. It provides information about traveling in the Egilsstaðir area and about the available services. Find out more at Camp Egilsstaðir's website.

We do not accept reservations, but the campground is large and there is always plenty of space!
There are two service houses at the campsite. In one house, you can find toilets, a wheelchair-accessible toilet, and showers. In the other house, there is a dining room with tables and benches, electrical outlets for small devices, and cooking facilities.
At the campsite, there is waste disposal for caravans and campers, garbage bins, and a bin for bottles and cans. A recycling center is near the campsite, and it is open from 08:00 - 16:00.
The campsite is located at the foot of a rocky hill, which is said to be the home of elves. There are paths that go around it and to the top, where there is a panoramic viewpoint. This rocky hill is called Álfaborg and is a protected area. If you believe in elves, this is an interesting place to visit, the elves do not mind guests as long as you respect their home.
If you listen closely enough to the rocks, you might hear them 😊
Behind the campground, there is a disc golf course which is free to use. Disc golf discs are available to borrow at the reception.
In Borgarfjörður Eystri, there are plenty of beautiful hiking trails into the fjords and the mountains, starting right next to the campsite. The village itself also offers many options for activities and local events during the summer season. And of course, the largest puffin colony in the country is only 5 minutes away from the campsite!
For more information or advice from the locals, you will find us at the reception!
