🎹 About Benjamín Gísli
Benjamín Gísli is one of Iceland’s foremost jazz pianists, praised for his lyrical style, emotional expression, and refined sound. While rooted in jazz, his music transcends genre boundaries—merging elements of classical music, film scores, and free improvisation in the spirit of Keith Jarrett.
To Benjamín, the piano is more than an instrument; it’s a medium for exploring new ideas, conveying emotion, and creating deep connections with listeners. His performances shift between structure and freedom, tradition and innovation.
In spring 2025, he will graduate with a master’s degree from the acclaimed NTNU Music Department in Trondheim, Norway. Alongside his studies, he has remained active in both the Norwegian and Icelandic music scenes, performing with groups like Benjamín Gísli Trio, Bliss Quintet, Bento Box Trio, and Tuva Halse Quintet.
His debut album Line of Thought (2023) received glowing international reviews. He has performed across Europe at renowned jazz festivals and clubs. Most recently, Benjamín was selected to perform for the Norwegian royal family during President Halla Tómasdóttir’s official visit. He has also been awarded a scholarship from the Árni Scheving Cultural Fund, supporting promising Icelandic jazz musicians in their international studies.
Benjamín is also a co-founder of Fjordgata Records, a Trondheim-based label promoting rising jazz talent in Norway.
