“Skáldaþing” is a new festival here in East Iceland that focuses on literature and poetry in unconventional spaces, entertaining events, and fresh approaches to the written word. It takes place from May 20 to May 31, 2026 and features both well-known and lesser-known poets. Around 50 participants will take part, presenting their literary works in various locations throughout the region.
Among the events and experiences on offer are:
- Poetry readings in swimming pools in Seyðisfjörður and Egilsstaðir
- “Poetry Along the Way” — poems appearing throughout the surrounding environment
- Opening of an art exhibition at Sláturhúsið
- Opening of an art exhibition by students of the Grunnskóli Seyðisfjarðar at Skaftfell Bistro - Vesturveggur
- An event at Tvísöngur
- A poetry walk in Hallormsstaður
- An outdoor visual art exhibition in Seyðisfjörður
- “Poetry in Nature” at Vestdalseyri
- “Poetry at Your Door” — home delivery of a poem directly to you.
