All This and the Sky as Well
Emilía Lorange (1938–2025) was raised in an artistic home in Reykjavík. Her father, Aage Lorange, was a jazz pianist, and her mother, Álfheiður, painted porcelain.
In 1978, Emilía followed her love to Borgarfjörður eystri with two of her children. There, she came under the spell of the grandeur of Mother Nature, and together with the muse of art she expressed her impressions on canvas throughout the ten years she lived there.
Emilía was commissioned to decorate the walls of the airport terminal in the village. One of those works is now on display at the airport in Egilsstaðir.
In 1988, their home, Vinaminni, burned down, and the family then moved to the city. Many of Emilía’s works were lost in the fire, and for a long time the muse of art lay dormant. It was not until Emilía became acquainted with watercolors, around the year 2000, that her inspiration awakened again in a new medium.
After she passed away, dozens of watercolor paintings were found among her belongings. A selection of these works may now be enjoyed in her former home village, which gave such great inspiration to her artistic gifts.
May the influence live on.
