We invite you to Tiny Church on Thursday, May 21, for ‘The Song of the Nykur’, performed by Scottish musician Cameron Anderton, who is currently an artist in residence at Þórsmörk.
Cameron is a composer and performer who works across composition, installation and improvisation. His work is deeply rooted in the traditional cultural landscapes of Scotland and Iceland, and he has presented his work in venues such as Harpa, Iðnó and the City Theatre in collaboration with leading musical and independent groups.
During his stay in Þórsmörk, Cameron will develop the research project Song of the Nykur, in which he explores the shared heritage of Scotland and Iceland through the myth of the Nykur (‘each-uisge’ in Scottish Gaelic). Through field recordings, research and composition, he will explore themes such as cultural memory, landscape and belonging.
This performance is a continuation of this research and explores traditional bagpipe music and stories of the Nykur. It is the first concert of 2026 in the second year of the Tiny Church Concert Series, supported by the Menningarstofa Fjarðabyggðar Cultural Grant Program.
