Trio Öræfi offers a light, accessible, and summery program where classical music shines in an unconventional and charming instrumentation. The concert is titled Zingara, after the movement of the same name in the Matiegka and Schubert quintet which will be performed, a word that translates to “gypsy girl.”
Trio Öræfi consists of Sóley Þrastardóttir on flute, Þórunn Harðardóttir on viola, and Ásdís Arnardóttir on cello. For this occasion, Öræfi is joined by guitarist Arnald Arnarson, who has been based in Barcelona for many years.
The backbone of the program is a five-movement quartet by Franz Schubert for guitar, flute, viola, and cello. The work is based on a trio by Wenzel Matiegka, but Schubert’s arrangement adds a cello part, bringing increased depth and richer tonal colors to the music.
The concert will also feature a new piece by Oliver Kentish for this specific instrumentation, composed especially for the ensemble. Additionally, movements from two trio works from the Romantic period will be performed: Grand Trio Op. 16 by Joseph Kreuzer and Terzetto Concertante by Niccolò Paganini. Although both pieces possess a Romantic character, they differ in texture and mood, with the unusual instrumentation breathing fresh life into each of them.
The house opens at 20:00.
The concert starts at 20:30.
